We’ve all been in situations where we want to watch videos on the go without Wi-Fi. So, we look for how to download videos tutorials and download videos software to help.
While there are many free tools to allow you to pre-download YouTube videos for later offline use, downloading DVDFab Video Downloader to your Windows, Mac computer or Android device gives you download access to 200+ websites. It also categorizes your online videos into your favorites and playlists that you can access anytime. The following detailed steps will help you get started.
First, head to DVDFab Video Downloader website and download the right version for your computer or device. Currently, DVDFab Video Downloader is only available for Windows, Mac, and Android users.
After successful installation and opening DVDFab Downloader, you should see the following screen. This is the main interface and the starting point to download your future videos.
Before you start downloading videos, adjust your settings if necessary. Click on the small arrow at the top right-hand corner of the main interface and the ‘Settings’ option as indicated in the screenshot below.
From here, you will be presented with the following options. Click on the folder indicated by the arrow to change where your saved videos will go.
You can also adjust the quality of your downloaded videos by clicking on the ‘Download Video’ to get that quality (Best, 8K UHD-4320p, 4K UHD-2160p, Full HD-1080p, HD-720P, SD-480p, 360p, 240p, and 144p) every time you download a video. Or, leave it at the ‘Ask Me Each Time’ option to get a pop-up every time asking which quality you want once you want to download a video.
After your desired settings are set, click OK at the bottom to save.
DVDFab Video Downloader presents a list of website options for you to download your video from. Note that you still need an internet connection to access these websites.
From the main interface, click on the YouTube icon at the top left of your screen. You should see YouTube as it appears if you were accessing it from an Internet browser.
Click on or search for your desired video and it should load as usual. Though, you will notice a yellow bar ‘Analyzing the video info…Please Wait’ at the top. Once this finishes, you are presented with three options as indicated in the screenshot below. Note that you can move this bar around by clicking and dragging to anywhere you want.
Hover your mouse over the ‘Download’ button and click on ‘Video’ to download the current YouTube video. If you left your original settings to ‘Ask me each time’ for quality, a pop-up will ask which quality you want. If you get the pop-up, you can click ‘Remember my Choice’, it will remember your selection and adjust your settings to keep this download quality for future videos. Your video is now being downloaded. To check the status, head over to ‘Downloads’ under the My Music section.
Your video will appear in the ‘Downloading’ section as shown in the screenshot below. Right-clicking on the video can pause, resume, and delete the video.
Once your video finishes downloading, it will appear in the ‘Videos’ section at the top left.
You can play your video directly from DVDFab Video Downloader. Head to the ‘Video’ section, click on your video, it will go full-screen like the second screenshot.
Below are functions similar to ones you see on regular videos. They also act in the same manner. Clicking on the shuffle button (in the red square) allows you to repeat all, single play videos in sequential order, or shuffle them. The function indicated with the yellow square replays the video from the beginning while the blue play the next video. The stop/play button stops and plays the video; lastly, the sound indicated with the green button adjusts the volume.
However, there are few extra functions to pay specific attention to. First is the thumbnail of the video on the bottom left hand corner indicated by the red square. If you have your video open, clicking that will bring you back to the ‘Video’ section or whichever section you are in. If you have the video playing in the background, clicking the thumbnail will open the video. The heart shaped icon and downward arrow in the green square serves two purposes: the heart directly adds the video to your favorites (which we will get to later), and the downward arrow can download the online video again to your selected directory. Again, you can check your download from the ‘Downloads’ tab under ‘My Music’ at the side. Adjust the video playback speed ranging from 0.5x to 1.5x by clicking on the button in the blue square. To show your playlist, click on the button in the white square.
Go full screen, minimize, expand, and exit the entire application using the controls above as shown in the screenshot below.
You can download an entire playlist directly from DVDFab Video Downloader. However, this only works if you have an existing playlist opened on YouTube. So, go ahead and open a playlist you want to download. Hover your mouse over to the ‘Download’ button at the top of the page, and you should see a new option: ‘Playlist’. Click this button, check or uncheck boxes to pick and choose which videos you want to download.
After selecting the entire playlist or specific music videos, select the quality by selecting the white box beside ‘Quality’. Once you’re happy with your options, press Download at the bottom right.
Your videos will start downloading from the ‘Downloading’ tab. After your playlist videos finish downloading, they will appear in the ‘Video’ tab, and you can play it like a normal video.
Hover your mouse over the ‘+Add to’ button displayed at the top left of your screen (indicated by the red arrow) and click the first option ‘Add to Favorite’. This will automatically add the video to your ‘My Favorites’ under the ‘My Music’ tab (highlighted with a red box) as shown in screenshot below. However, this one action ONLY adds the music video’s AUDIO to your favorites. It does not add the video.
Keep in mind that videos added to your favorites cannot be played unless downloaded. Only the audio will play. So, to play the video, you must download it first. This is why we introduced how to download videos first before tackling this specific part. Also, to operate the video, you must use the functions as indicated in the red box.
In other words, double-clicking on the name won’t do anything.
If you want to create a playlist, click on the ‘+’ beside the Created Playlists tab shown in the screenshot below. Enter your playlist name, and now you have your first playlist.
To add a video to your newly created playlist, press the ‘+ Add to’ function at the top of a video and you should see an ‘Add to playlist’ accessible feature. Simply click on your playlist to add the video. Make sure to download the video first so it can be played in your playlist. Also, keep in mind that you must use the functions in the ‘operate’ section beside the video shown in step 6. Again, double-clicking on the name won’t do anything.
By playing playlists, the program will automatically recognize that it's playing a playlist which a new option called’ Save Playlist’ will appear under ‘Add to’. Clicking that will save the playlist to ‘Saved Playlist’ at the side with the list of all the songs from that playlist without downloading. A list of your downloaded videos is shown in the screenshot below. Again, make sure you have them downloaded so it plays.
What we just mentioned are steps to download YouTube videos. However, you can also download videos from other websites. There are a few key differences between downloading YouTube videos and from other websites. The first difference you will notice is the lack of options besides the ‘Download’ function shown in the following screenshot.
Therefore, you cannot add videos other than YouTube to your favorites, playlists, etc. Even by downloading the video, you won’t be able to click the heart-shaped button. Everything else, however, is still accessible and acts the same if it were a YouTube video.
Another tip is you can copy and paste video URLs to search directly within DVDFab Video Downloader like in the screenshot below with any video website. Press enter and your requested video will pop up.
If you’re pressed for time, activate the ‘turbo speed’ feature to quicken your downloads.
This tutorial covered the steps related to videos from DVDFab Video Downloader, a convenient tool to download videos before a long trip. However, we’re sure you noticed that DVDFab Video Downloader can also download audio, most of which works similar to the steps covered in this post. However, there are some differences that will be covered in another post.
